Daniel Sunjata, Kate Jennings Grant & More Will Join Blythe Danner in The Country House on Broadway

Daniel Sunjata, Kate Jennings Grant, Eric Lange, David Rasche and Sarah Steele will join the previously announced Tony and Emmy winner Blythe Danner in Donald Margulies’ The Country House. Directed by Daniel Sullivan, the production will begin performances on Broadway on September 9. Opening night is set for October 2 at Manhattan Theatre Club's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.

Sunjata was nominated for a Tony for his performance in Take Me Out and most recently appeared on Broadway in Macbeth. On screen, he can be seen in Graceland, Smash, The Dark Knight Rises and The Devil Wears Prada. Grant’s Broadway’s credits include The Lyons, Guys and Dolls, Proof and An American Daughter. Lange makes his Broadway debut with The Country House; on screen, he has appeared in Weeds, Lost and the upcoming films Imagined and Nightcrawler. Rasche’s stage credits include Little Miss Sunshine off-Broadway, as well as To Be Or Not To Be, Getting and Spending and Speed-the-Plow on the Great White Way. This marks Steele’s Broadway debut; she was seen off-Broadway in Slowgirl, Russian Transport, All-American and Speech and Debate.

Inspired by Chekhov’s pastoral comedies, The Country House follows Anna Patterson (Danner), the matriarch of a brood of famous and longing-to-be-famous artists who have gathered at their Berkshires summerhouse during the Williamstown Theatre Festival. When the weekend takes an unexpected turn, the group is forced to improvise—inciting a series of jealousies, romantic outbursts and passionate soul-searching. The play received its world premiere at Geffen Playhouse in June.

The Country House will feature sets by John Lee Beatty, costumes by Rita Ryack, lighting design by Peter Kaczorowski, sound design by Obadiah Eaves and original music by Peter Golub.
